Compatibility contract
FeatherMC keeps these the same as Paper on purpose, so tools and plugins built for Paper keep working:
| Surface | On FeatherMC |
|---|---|
| Java packages | io.papermc.paper, org.bukkit, com.destroystokyo.paper |
| Brand ID | papermc:paper. Brand checks also accept feathermc:feather. |
| Brand name | FeatherMC |
| Persistent data / NBT keys | Paper’s keys, unchanged |
| Config files | config/paper-global.yml, config/paper-world-defaults.yml, per-world paper-world.yml |
| Commands and CLI flags | /paper and Paper’s startup flags |
FeatherMC shows its own name in /version, the console, the F3 client brand, the server list and bStats. Its version checker points at FeatherMC’s own repository, so you don’t get a confusing “unknown version” warning.
What players can observe is also held constant. Redstone timing, mob behaviour, drops, physics and world generation must match Paper. The only exceptions are the opt-in features documented in the config reference (the TNT guard and the anti-cheat check), and they are off unless an admin turns them on.
FeatherMC’s own API
Section titled “FeatherMC’s own API”FeatherMC has its own small API in the package dev.feathermc.feather, for config access and events for its built-in features. Plugins still use the Paper and Bukkit APIs for everything else. See the FeatherMC API.
